Salacious Salsas of Sensations | 2013
*This poem was published in Danse Macabre in 2013
Hidden smiles
convey the
gratitude
for having the screen considerably
reverted
during the guidance.
A give-and- take Salsa lesson
comprised of an
overabundance of giving
and the taking of
nothing
with the camera remaining
pointed towards a mirror
upon which footwork,
gentle touches,
and frivolous jest,
is all
reflected.
Thin schisms
between entertainment
and temptation
captured
in tumultuous tornados
of confusion
and proximity
with two steps taken forwards
and one step taken back
to the laptop
and the microphone
into which soft whispers
reverberate
of how other Salsas would be
different
with trickles of sweat,
nervous impulses,
and memories
evoking little seductive laughs
that would tease the
anxious beats
synchronous to those of the
“1, 2, 3” steps
you count
as our longing souls
dance a different kind of
lugubrious Salsa
ten thousand miles apart.
